Established in 1993 as a low care hostel, Napier Street Aged Care has grown and developed into a beautifully restored boutique aged care facility, which continues as a not-for-profit organisation, focussing on the needs of older residents of the Port Phillip community.

An iconic bluestone building with rich history
1993
Year founded
The landmark bluestone building was originally a girls’ orphanage, before it was bought by a trust, to provide residential care to seniors in the community.
1998
Refurbishment
The first major redevelopment after Napier Street’s opening was in 1998 with the addition of a small dementia-specific wing.
2010
18 bed wing
Three level development adding a meeting room, extra bathroom to accommodate a high-low bath and an increase in the size of the activities room.

Board
Marie Crossland
Chief Executive Officer
Marie joined the team at Napier Street Aged Care Services in May 2017, as Chief Executive Officer.
In this position Marie will lead the senior staff and actively work with the Board Of Management to ensure Napier Street Aged Care Services retain and grow their strong community links, associated with an exceptional level of care.
Marie has held senior management roles with Australian Unity for more than 10 years, and has worked within the industry for more than 30 years.
Marie commenced her career as a nurse and holds Diplomas in Management and Occupational Health and Safety.
Mr. Frank O’Connor

Frank is a retired senior executive of a financial services organisation where he had responsibility for IT, HR, Property and Legal functions. Frank has held numerous non-executive Director roles with not for profit and local community organisations. As well as being the current Chair of Napier Street Aged Care Services, Frank is a director of Catholic Care Victoria Ltd and recently retired as a Director of Housing First Ltd. Frank was Mayor of the City of Port Phillip 2008-2010, and served on the former South Melbourne Council including two years as Mayor. Frank has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 1993
Ms. Maryanne McPhee
Vice Chair
B.App.Sc.(Speech Pathology), PG.Dip. (Pall Care)
Maryanne has extensive clinical experience in neuro-palliative care, working in Australia and the United Kingdom, and is currently working at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem. Maryanne also co-authored several journal articles and more recently a chapter on “Interdisciplinary Management of Communication” in David Oliver’s book Palliative Care In ALS (Motor Neurone Disease). In the past, Maryanne has held a number of other non- executive Director roles. Maryanne is currently a member of the State Council for the Motor Neurone Disease association Victoria. Maryanne has been a board member at Napier Street Aged Care since 2014
Gabriel Villaflor
Clinical Care Manager
Gabriel came to NSACS following a career in the Philippines as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse and a Clinical Staff Educator. Whilst Gabriel was awaiting his Nursing registration in Australia he fulfilled shifts in the care area as a PCA, and also completed duties in the Laundry, Catering and Day Center departments.
Gabriel resigned his position at NSACS after gaining his Australian Nursing Registration, to gain further experience in Melbourne hospitals including, The Alfred, Epworth, St. Vincent’s Hospital, John Fawkner Hospital and Peter McCallum.
Gabriel returned to NSACS to fulfil the role of Quality and Education Coordinator before moving to his current position of Clinical Care Manger. Gabriel is well respected by staff, residents and relatives. In his spare time he enjoys swimming and often explores some of Melbourne's markets, hidden restaurants and coffee shops
Ms. Brenda Nowlan

Brenda is a retired teacher who had a long career as a senior mathematics teacher in both state and private schools where she occupied a number of leadership positions. In retirement, Brenda has been a volunteer at a major public hospital for more than 10 years, acting in a number of different roles involving close contact with patients. Brenda has been a lay member of the hospital’s Human Research and Ethics Committee for the past 8 years. As a lifelong resident of the City of Port Phillip, Brenda has many local connections and has a good understanding of the local community. Branda has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 1999
Kathryn Guiao
Quality & Education Manager
Kathryn commenced her Aged Care career as a Personal Care Assistant in Napier Street Aged Care Services (NSACS) until the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency completed the recognition of her overseas nursing registration. Kathryn was then appointed to the position of Clinical Care Coordinator at NSACS, a position held for 5 years. Kathryn pursued opportunities with Blue Cross and completed a Manager in Training program followed by working in as a Residence Manager role.
In 2018 NSACS were very pleased, Kathryn accepted the offer of a Quality and Education Manager position. Her commitment and passion towards quality care to elderly people ensures that NSACS can be abreast of the rapidly changing Aged Care Service Industry.
Mr. Nick Capes
Treasurer

Nick is a retired senior executive with senior financial and general management experience; last work position being CFO of Walt Disney Company (Australia) where he was responsible for all financial functions. Nick has held several non-executive Director roles with not for profit and local community organisations. As well as being the current Treasurer of Napier Street Aged Care Services, Nick is a director of STAR Health (now merged into the Better Health Network) and Treasurer of the Eco Centre in St Kilda. Nick has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2016
Mr. John Coldham
BA, LL.B
John was a partner of national law firm Hall & Wilcox from 1984 to 2019 where he is now a consultant. John formed and managed large teams providing statutory insurance legal services to government and business, and was also actively involved in establishing and expanding Hall & Wilcox’s interstate offices. John was a member of the Hall & Wilcox Board of Management and is currently a board member of a number of not-for-profit community organisations. John has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2000
Ms. Patricia (Tricia) Tracey
B.A.(Hons) B.Ed
Tricia has been an academic at major Australian universities for many years teaching and researching in psychology and politics, specialising later in her career in the latter field. Tricia was a member of senior committees which addressed university management, coordination and operations, and has been widely recognised for her strengths in people management, policy formulation and strategic planning. Tricia has contributed to several other community programs including pre marriage education with couples and language education with refugees. Tricia has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 1994
Mr. Pablo Salina
B.A
Pablo is a qualified secondary school teacher - teaching at-risk youth for many years and has worked in the Community School sector for 10 years and is a passionate advocate for young people. Pablo has also worked in the juvenile justice system, specifically with incarcerated young offenders and as a youth drug and alcohol residential worker. Pablo spent 10 years in the automotive industry in sales and management roles before moving into the community sector. Pablo managed an Electorate Office for a member of the Southern Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Legislative Council and also worked as a ministerial adviser - focusing on trade and international education. Currently Pablo works as an engagement manager in the Victorian public service. Pablo has extensive experience in community engagement, education and local politics. Pablo has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2013
Dr. Richard Whiting

Richard is a recently retired Consultant Geriatrician. Richard has extensive experience as a board member (including as chairperson) of residential aged care facilities in the not-for-profit sector. Richard has led large hospital units and small commercial enterprises. Richard have advised state and commonwealth governments on health and aged care issues. Richard has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2015
Ms. Louise Crawford
BA - Arts
Louise is a professional actor by trade with a BA in Arts. Louise was elected to the City of Port Phillip in 2016 and is currently serving her second term on council, where she served as Mayor in 2021. Louise has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2016
Ms. Elizabeth (Libby) Van Leeuwen
RN, ICU Cert, B.Ed, M. PET, Cert IV TAE
Libby has been a registered nurse for 40 years and worked across the public and private health sector. She has primarily focussed on clinical care, workforce education and management with her most recent position being the Director of Nursing at Great Ocean Road Health, Apollo Bay campus. Libby has been a member of the Board of NSACS since 2022
